Australians advised how to beat data retention laws

Australians will be able to avoid new data retention laws by using overseas email providers and by communicating using encrypted software, Greens Senator Scott Ludlam has said during a parliamentary debate on data retention laws.

The Senate on Tuesday debated new laws that would require internet service providers to store customer “metadata” for two years. The Labor Opposition has supported the government’s proposals, with amendments including greater protections for journalists. Read full story here…
