Chinese hokey pokey for Nokia

Written by on December 8, 2014 in News with 0 Comments

Rumours, the kind that come from very reliable sources, are saying that Nokia’s next, and possibly final home will be a long way from Finland, in China, no less. The new owner looks to be none other than Chinese everything manufacturer, Huawei.

The move will clearly provide much needed financial stability to the one time telecoms giant but may not necessarily guarantee longevity for its staff. It does, though, throw up other interesting questions.

Presumably the move will give Huawei an introduction to companies and countries where Chinese vendors have not always been warmly welcomed. Presumably, it will also be problematic where there is Nokia equipment in a country where Huawei is definitely not welcome.

That apart, and let us ignore the urge to say ‘I told you so’, when Huawei strongly denied rumours that they would buy Nokia in 2013, the cultural integration of the two may not all be plain sailing.

That said, minds immeasurably superior to ours have presumably been discussing these issues for, hopefully, many months.

One thing is for sure – the combined company will have financial muscle and, officially, the very tried and tested engineering of Finnish know-how.
