The body of evidence continues to point to growth in the OSS and BSS markets. This report from CIOL in India predicts a market worth almost $50 billion in 2018, with growth running at 16 percent compound. They believe that the top four players will account for 40 percent of this opportunity.

The need for convergent charging is again cited as the main driver, as operators look to replace their current legacy systems. Last year, research house Infonetics said the market for convergent charging systems alone would reach $14 plus billion by 2017, and recently predicted a large scale replacement of BSS, driven by the clear need for real time capabilities.

A recent in-depth report from real-time policy and charging provider Openet revealed the thinking of 80 operators around the world. To innovate, operators now acknowledge, real-time, flexible systems are crucial.
